South Devon Cattle Breeders Club Sale Report
The South Devon Herd Book Society’s Summer Sale, held on 29th May at Exeter Livestock Centre, proved a great success, with a 100% clearance rate and all eight bulls finding new homes to average 4,837gns.
Leading the trade at 6,000gns was Godworthy Astar, consigned by Richard Burrough.
Travelling from Northamptonshire, Kevin Finch enjoyed an excellent day in the sale ring, with Pytchley Grogu selling for 4,800gns and Pytchley Gideon realising 4,500gns, demonstrating the continued demand for proven South Devon genetics.
The Waddeton Herd of Gordon Tully, Brixham, also enjoyed a successful sale, with Waddeton Quintus selling for 4,400gns and Waddeton Illustrious 10 making 4,000gns.
John Tucker, of the Providence Herd, sold Providence Bruiser Brody for 4,000gns, while The Edwards Family, of the Colcharton Herd, completed the day’s trade with Colcharton Clyde 13 selling for 3,000gns.
The 100% clearance rate reflects the confidence buyers continue to place in South Devon cattle and their commercial attributes. With strong demand across the catalogue, the sale once again demonstrated the breed’s growing appeal to both pedigree and commercial producers.
The Society would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the vendors for supporting the sale. Their continued commitment to presenting quality South Devon cattle is what makes these events possible and ensures they remain an important fixture in the Society’s calendar.
A special thank you also goes to Kivells Agriculture for hosting the sale at Exeter Livestock Centre, and to auctioneer Mark Davis, whose professionalism and enthusiasm helped make the day another success.
Congratulations to all vendors and purchasers, and we wish everyone every success with their new South Devon cattle.
