Dispersal Sale of Roskilly Herd of Pedigree South Devons - 25th October 2011

Frank Marshall and Company were delighted to conduct the Dispersal of the Roskilly Herd of South Devon cattle on behalf of Mr D Moss, Adlington, last Monday, when a large crowd of breeders and enthusiasts gathered around the ring at Chelford Market.

As the spring born calves were well grown, and the majority of the cows were confirmed at least 3 – 4 months back in calf, the decision was taken to sell the calves separately to their dams.

The best total price for a cow and calf outfit came therefore for the March 2007 born cow Halsall Safflorite 5 and her heifer calf Roskilly Safflorite , sired by Woodhayes Illya 13, and born April of this year. The cow Safflorite 5 had a suckler replacement index above the herd average and was sold 3 to 4 months back in calf to Illya 13. She made 1,630 gn to Messrs Atkin, Eccleshall, Stafford, whilst her heifer calf, Roskilly Safflorite 1, born April and sired by Illya 13 made 1,500 gns to Messrs Salt, Uttoxeter, Stafford, giving a combined total of 3,130 gns.

Halsall Buttercup 13, a March 2007 born daughter of Grove Germanicus, sold also scanned 3 to 4 months in-calf to Illya 13, and made 1,460 gns to Nigel Potts, Over Alderley, Macclesfield, with another heifer calf, Roskilly Duchess 1, again by Illya 13, making 1,010 gns to Messrs Atkin.
